Rome Film Fest 2026 | October 13-25, 2026

The 21st edition of the Rome Film Fest will take place October 13–25, 2026, with the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone serving as its main hub and additional programming taking place at cultural venues across the Italian capital. Under Artistic Director Paola Malanga, the festival returns with its international Progressive Cinema competition and a program spanning Italian and international films, audience-oriented titles, conversations with filmmakers and talent, special screenings, tributes and retrospectives. This year, the festival will also add an extra day to accommodate the growing number of film submissions.

Opening the 2026 edition will be Paolo Genovese’s Il rumore delle cose nuove, screening in the Grand Public section on opening night. The film is produced by Lotus Production, a Leone Film Group company, with Rai Cinema, in collaboration with Disney+ and in association with Vice Pictures. Genovese directed Perfect Strangers, a major Italian box office success that became a notable example of the international reach of Italian film IP, generating approximately 50 remakes across markets worldwide. His most recent film, Madly, was also the highest-grossing Italian film of 2025.

Opening night will also spotlight one of the most influential figures in British film production. Tessa Ross will receive the Industry Lifetime Achievement Award, introduced by the festival in 2025 to recognize figures who have made a significant contribution to the international film industry. Now CEO of House Productions, which she co-founded in 2016, Ross previously spent many years at Channel 4, where she played a key role in the development and financing of films including Slumdog Millionaire, The Last King of Scotland, 12 Years a Slave, Carol and Ex Machina. More recently, she produced Edward Berger’s Conclave, earning an Academy Award nomination, and served as an executive producer on The Zone of Interest. Berger will present Ross with the award on October 13.

Since 2022, the Rome Film Fest has included the international Progressive Cinema competition, alongside non-competitive sections showcasing different forms of contemporary cinema and audiovisual storytelling. The full program for the 21st edition will be announced in the coming weeks.
