Lucca Comics & Games, October 28-November 1 | Lucca
Lucca Comics & Games returns October 28-November 1, 2026, for a milestone edition celebrating the event’s 60th anniversary. Founded in Italy in 1966, Lucca has grown into one of Europe’s leading events dedicated to comics, gaming, video games, fantasy and pop culture, with an increasingly international reach. This year’s theme, Legacy, reflects not only the heritage built over six decades, but also the way stories, characters and fictional worlds are passed from one generation to the next and continue to evolve across different formats and platforms. The 2026 edition will be held under the patronage of the European Commission, reflecting the shared principle of “United in diversity.”
It is precisely this convergence of media that makes Lucca increasingly relevant to the audiovisual industry. Comics, manga and video games have become an important part of the global intellectual property ecosystem, fueling film and television adaptations, franchises and new forms of storytelling. This year’s program brings together figures who embody that cross-media dialogue, from Frank Miller, whose work across comics and film includes The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City, to Go Nagai, whose creations have had a lasting influence on manga, animation and international pop culture. Jonathan Hickman, one of the key contemporary architects of the Marvel Universe through titles including Fantastic Four, Avengers, X-Men and Secret Wars, will also make his first appearance in Italy.
The video game industry will have a particularly strong presence. Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series and director of the original Final Fantasy VII, will attend as a guest of honor and be inducted into the Lucca Walk of Fame. Hideki Kamiya, whose career includes Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Ōkami and Bayonetta, will also be in Lucca, alongside Noah Falstein, one of the first ten employees of Lucasfilm Games, later LucasArts, who worked on titles including The Secret of Monkey Island and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
The anniversary will also extend into original interactive projects. Luke & Clea: A Quest for Legacy, an 8-bit pixel-art game created specifically around the history of Lucca Comics & Games, launches September 24, exactly 60 years after the festival began in 1966, with a final level unlocking on opening day. At Palazzo Guinigi, Legacy – The Exhibition, developed in partnership with POLI.design, will explore six decades of the festival through an interactive format designed to evolve with contributions from its visitors.
The audiovisual component will have a dedicated presence through the Movie Area, curated by QMI. A fixture at Lucca for 16 years, the section will once again feature previews, talent appearances, special events and exclusive content spanning film, television and entertainment, with further details for the 2026 edition to be announced.
