Giffoni Film Festival (July 17–26, 2025) – Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy

Recognized as one of the most important and innovative cultural events in Italy and worldwide, the Giffoni Film Festival returns for its 55th edition from July 17 to 26, 2025, in Giffoni Valle Piana, a small town in the Campania region of southern Italy, just a few miles from the cities of Salerno and Naples.

Founded in 1971 by Claudio Gubitosi, Giffoni has become the world’s most prestigious international film festival dedicated to young audiences. What makes Giffoni truly unique is its jury: 5,000 young people from over 30 countries gather each year to watch, discuss, and vote on the films in competition. They meet at the Cittadella del Cinema, Giffoni’s main festival venue — a modern, multifunctional hub designed to foster creativity, cultural dialogue, and international exchange.

Each edition revolves around a central theme that guides its programming and visual identity. The 2025 theme is “Becoming Human”, represented by the festival’s official image created by Creative Director Luca Apolito. As Apolito explains, “Becoming human is not just an intimate process — it is also an act of belonging. In the image of #Giffoni55, we find the trace of a unique and necessary journey that each human being must undertake to truly become themselves.”

Beyond its screenings, Giffoni is a transformative space where young people interact directly with actors, directors, musicians, and thinkers from across the globe. Over the years, its blue carpet has welcomed guests such as Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Susan Sarandon, and Richard Gere.

This year’s edition features several high-profile events, including an exclusive preview of The Bad Guys 2 on July 25, the eagerly awaited new chapter in DreamWorks’ animated franchise, ahead of its Italian theatrical release on August 20. On July 19, the festival will host a special event celebrating I Cesaroni – Il Ritorno, the new season of the beloved Italian TV series. Actor and director Claudio Amendola, reprising his role as Giulio Cesaroni, will share insights from the set.

This edition also marks a significant transition: founder Claudio Gubitosi, who devoted over five decades to shaping and growing Giffoni, recently announced he will be stepping down as director. His extraordinary journey — beginning as an eighteen-year-old in a small town with no formal training or resources — has become a story of visionary dedication. Over the years, Gubitosi turned an idea into a global institution, giving voice to generations of young people and building a platform where imagination, dialogue, and community take center stage. His legacy lives on in the countless lives Giffoni has touched — and in the continued global relevance of a festival born from one bold belief: that children’s ideas matter.
