Mònde – Festival of Cinema on the Pilgrim Routes, Foggia, Puglia | May 28–31, 2026
Now in its ninth edition, Mònde – Festival of Cinema on the Pilgrim Routes takes place in Foggia, in northern Puglia, from May 28 to 31, 2026. The festival is built around a straightforward premise: cinema and walking as complementary practices, both understood as forms of attention and discovery.
Founded by artistic director Luciano Toriello — documentary filmmaker, professor of cinema at the University of Foggia and CEO of MAD (Memorie Audiovisive della Daunia) — the event draws on the geography of its host city. Foggia sits at the historical convergence of the ancient tratturi — the transhumance routes that crossed southern Italy for centuries — and the festival uses these pathways as both setting and concept. Screenings, masterclasses, and industry meetings are organized alongside guided walks through the Gargano National Park, archaeological sites, and the coastal trails between Monte Sant’Angelo and Mattinata. This year’s theme is “The Unexpected.”
The 2026 edition introduces an international section curated by Silvia Bizio, a journalist and producer based in Los Angeles with extensive experience connecting European and American film communities. The festival is also deepening its ties with the LA independent scene through a partnership with NewFilmmakers Los Angeles, which will include the presentation of three films previously screened in Los Angeles. On the training side, Mònde has launched a program in digital humanities and audiovisual heritage in collaboration with LuceLab, Cinecittà’s educational initiative, focused on archive preservation and digital storytelling. The festival program includes features, shorts, and awards for travel film and archaeology documentary, with an additional program planned for October in Monte Sant’Angelo.
The full program and guest announcements are expected in the coming weeks. For updates, visit mondefest.it
