InFocus: Puglia Returns to Los Angeles with NewFilmmakers LA, April 2026
NewFilmmakers Los Angeles — a year-round nonprofit organization dedicated to showcasing independent artists through monthly festivals and industry-focused programming, under the leadership of Executive Director Larry Laboe — returns with InFocus: Puglia, a program created by artistic director Silvia Bizio, in partnership with the Apulia Film Commission and with the support of Mònde – Festa del Cinema sui Cammini. The 2026 edition presents a curated selection of films from Apulia, reflecting the region’s evolving cinematic landscape and its growing international outlook.
Antonio Parente, Director of the Apulia Film Commission, underscores that the 2026 edition aims to deepen artistic exchange and strengthen production ties between Southern Italy and Los Angeles, through a selection that ranges from intimate character studies to poetic explorations of identity and generational change, highlighting both the emerging cinematic voices of Apulia and the remarkable diversity of its landscapes.
Silvia Bizio, artistic director and the creator of the InFocus: Puglia emphasizes how the program combines a creative and practical dimension, pairing film screenings with industry meetings that offer filmmakers a concrete opportunity to engage with the Hollywood film ecosystem—from production to marketing and casting—while fostering direct relationships with producers, agents, and representatives of major international festivals, and reinforcing the idea of Apulia not only as a filming location, but as a source of new cinematic voices.
Over the past decade, Puglia has established itself as one of Italy’s most dynamic audiovisual hubs, attracting international productions while continuing to nurture local talent.
Screenings will be open to the public on April 8 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles and on April 11 at the NFMLA festival venue at The South Park Center in Downtown LA.
