AFI FEST 2025 (October 22–26, TCL Chinese Theatres, Los Angeles)
Organized by the American Film Institute (AFI) — one of the leading U.S. cultural institutions dedicated to advancing and preserving the art of the moving image — AFI FEST returns for its 39th edition from October 22 to 26, 2025, reaffirming its role as Los Angeles’s leading fall industry event dedicated to international cinema. Hosted at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatres in Hollywood, the festival continues to serve as a key hub for global professionals at the intersection of creativity, distribution, and awards-season positioning.
The 2025 edition maintains a comprehensive program that spans Red Carpet Premieres, Special Screenings, World Cinema features, documentaries, and the Oscar-qualifying Short Film competition. The latter also retains BAFTA and BIFA eligibility, enhancing international visibility for participating filmmakers. Submissions for all sections closed earlier this summer, with the full lineup to be announced on September 30. Individual tickets will be made available to industry participants starting October 6.
The festival opens with Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, directed by Scott Cooper and starring Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen during the pivotal recording of Nebraska. Closing night will feature the world premiere of Song Sung Blue (Focus Features), directed by Craig Brewer and starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson as musicians forming a Neil Diamond tribute band. Programming this year benefits from the curatorial vision of Guest Artistic Director Guillermo del Toro, underscoring AFI FEST’s focus on auteur-driven and international storytelling. Del Toro’s own anticipated adaptation of Frankenstein will be released in mid-October, amplifying the festival’s thematic emphasis on music, fantasy, and narrative reinvention.
AFI FEST 2025 remains structured to address both creative and market-oriented objectives. Industry passes provide priority access to screenings, dedicated networking mixers, and reserved entry to red-carpet events. The festival’s partnership with Canva also enhances the professional dimension of the event, integrating workshops, creative labs, and sessions designed to connect producers, distributors, and talent with potential collaborators and buyers.
