“Quinn” at HollyShorts: the Italian short film competes at the HollyShorts Film Festival
On Friday, August 21, at 7:30 PM, the lights of the TCL Chinese Theatre 6 in Los Angeles will go up on Quinn, a short film directed by Gianluca Mangiasciutti and Stefano Usberghi. It is the only entirely Italian title in the 2026 lineup of the HollyShorts Film Festival, now in its 22nd edition and confirmed as an official Academy Award and BAFTA qualifying festival. A notable achievement, considering that this year’s selection includes more than 400 films chosen from thousands of submissions from around the world. The screening is part of the festival’s “Thriller” section.
Starring Costantino Seghi and Filippo De Carli, Quinn follows a young man who, after a sexual assault, sets out to track down his attacker. His desire for retribution intertwines with a deeper journey of self-discovery. “Being selected for HollyShorts, a festival that represents excellence in short filmmaking, fills us with pride,” the directors said.
The film is produced by GM Production, the film division of communication agency Gruppo Matches. Ahead of its Los Angeles stop, Quinn had already been selected by five other international festivals: the Queer International Film Festival in Playa del Carmen, Mexico; The Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival; the Andaras Traveling Film Festival; LGBT+ Film Festival Poland; and the European Film Festival of Lille. In November, the film will also compete at the International Queer Film Festival in Playa del Carmen.
“This is our first project, and it keeps bringing us great satisfaction,” said Cristina Borsatti, Head of GM Production. “Seeing it reach Hollywood is an important step for us, an honor, especially because it deals with important and timely themes.” For Andrea Cicini, CEO of GM Production and Gruppo Matches, the selection confirms a clear production strategy: prioritizing stories capable of generating authentic emotion over market-driven logic.
This is not an isolated case. The company’s second short film, Puca by Sara Scalera, has been selected for the 41st International Critics’ Week at the upcoming 83rd Venice Film Festival. Two significant international selections within a few months, for a newborn production company that is steadily building, one short film at a time, a recognizable authorial identity.
