David di Donatello Awards – May 6, 2026 – Rome, Italy
The 71st edition of the David di Donatello Awards —widely regarded as one of Italy’s most prestigious film industry honors — will be held on May 6, 2026, at Cinecittà Studios in Rome. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Rai 1 and hosted by Flavio Insinna and Bianca Balti, and will mark the inauguration of the new Soundstage 23 at Cinecittà.
Organized by the Fondazione Accademia del Cinema Italiano in collaboration with Rai and Cinecittà, the awards are held under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, with the support of the Ministry of Culture. Established in 1956, the Davids recognize excellence across the full spectrum of filmmaking — from directing, acting, and screenplay to cinematography, editing, and technical achievement — and have long served as a key barometer of the health and direction of Italian cinema.
A total of 29 Italian films have received at least one nomination in this edition. Leading the pack is Le città di pianura by Francesco Sossai with 16 nominations, followed by La grazia by Paolo Sorrentino with 14, and Le assaggiatrici by Silvio Soldini with 13. Also earning significant recognition are Duse by Pietro Marcello, Fuori by Mario Martone, and La città proibita by Gabriele Mainetti, each with 8 nominations.
The Best Film category brings together five titles representing the breadth of contemporary Italian storytelling: Le città di pianura, La grazia, Le assaggiatrici, Fuori, and Cinque secondi by Paolo Virzì. On the acting front, Valeria Golino, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, and Barbara Ronchi each received double nominations, underscoring the strength of Italian female talent this year. Four of the five nominees for Best Debut Director are women: Ludovica Rampoldi, Margherita Spampinato, Greta Scarano, and Alissa Jung.
The 2026 edition confirms the vitality of Italian cinema with 118 Italian films submitted, including 36 debut features, alongside 107 documentaries, 206 short films, and 24 international films.
