Italian Global Series Festival | June 21-28 | Rimini and Riccione, Italy

The Italian Global Series Festival (IGSF) is set to debut from June 21 to 28, 2025, in the picturesque cities of Riccione and Rimini. This inaugural event, organized by the Associazione Produttori Audiovisivi (APA) in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers (SIAE), aims to celebrate and promote both Italian and international television series, highlighting their artistic quality and entertainment value.  The IGSF serves as a modern evolution of the Roma Fiction Festival, which ran annually from 2007 to 2016. The festival’s venues include Pala Riccione and Multiplex Cine Palace in Riccione, as well as Cinema Fulgor, Teatro Galli, and Corte degli Agostiniani in Rimini. These locations will host a variety of events designed to engage both industry professionals and the general public. The festival’s competitive sections encompass drama, comedy, limited series, and TV movies. Entries in these categories will vie for the prestigious “Maximo Awards,” which recognize excellence in best series, best leading actor and actress, and best creator and/or director. Winners will be determined by a jury of industry professionals. Additionally, a special “Italian Fiction” award will honor an Italian-origin title distributed domestically between June 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025. The National Union of Film Journalists will also present a Special Nastro D’argento to a significant international co-production featured at the festival.

Beyond screenings, the IGSF will offer keynotes and master classes featuring both Italian and international talents. Attendees can anticipate exclusive “first look” presentations of new series in production, with insights from cast members and creators. Notable figures such as Palme d’Or-winning and Emmy-nominated director Bille August, director and screenwriter Cristina Comencini, and multi-award-winning director and writer Paolo Genovese are slated to participate. Moderated discussions will be led by Piera Detassis, president of the David di Donatello Awards, and Laura Delli Colli, president of the National Union of Film Journalists.

The Artistic Director of the IGSF is Marco Spagnoli, Deputy Director and Head of the Doc & Factual division at MIA – Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo (International Audiovisual Market) in Rome. A journalist and director with prior involvement in the Roma Fiction Festival, Spagnoli expressed gratitude, during the press conference, for the opportunity to revive its spirit, emphasizing the festival’s dual mission: to promote Italian productions within a diverse international context and to recognize and nurture domestic talent. He envisions the IGSF becoming a central meeting point for both national and international industry professionals, celebrating the stories, talents, and productions that exemplify Italian excellence.
