Writer’s Strike: CBS Changes Fall Lineup
Reality shows will heavily replace scripted series.
CBS is forced to alter its fall schedule amid writers’ strike and actor walkout threats: delivering a lineup of scripted series seems nearly impossible at this point.
The newly revised CBS fall scheduling plans will be revealed soon.
“Obviously, it’s going to be very reality-heavy,” said George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS and Chief Content Officer of News and Sports, Paramount+. “Our core summer franchises, starting with Big Brother, will slide into August, leaving them into November.” Big Brother, which typically premieres in late June or July, will not debut its new season until Aug. 2.
“Wednesday night, we’re going to supersize Survivor and Amazing Race, 90 minutes each,” Cheeks said. “We have about four or five reality shows we’re getting ready. We might do more.” As for the scripted fare, “We’re looking at some of the Paramount+ originals,” Cheeks said.
CBS used a similar strategy in the fall of 2020 when then-CBS All Access original Star Trek: Discovery reruns helped shore up the network’s pandemic schedule.
