The move builds on Disney’s experience with ESPN, where short video “verts” — featuring key game moments, commentary, and analysis — are already distributed inside the app, allowing users to scroll through personalized feeds tailored to their interests. Disney now plans to expand this model across news and entertainment, positioning Disney+ as a daily destination not only for long-form viewing but also for snackable, rapid updates.

Early experiments are already underway. In 2025, ABC News launched What You Need to Know, a daily short-form show developed specifically for Disney+, hosted by Rachel Scott or James Longman. The strategy reflects a broader industry shift, as traditional media companies and brands explore mobile-first storytelling formats to engage audiences increasingly accustomed to swipe-driven consumption.
