Take-Two Interactive Sells Private Division to Focus on Core Business

Take-Two Interactive, known for producing popular video games like “Grand Theft Auto,” has sold its game development studio, Private Division, which created “Tales of the Shire.” This sale was mentioned in Take-Two’s earnings report for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025. The details of who bought the studio and the sale price were not revealed.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, said that the company decided to sell Private Division to focus more on its main areas of business for long-term growth. The buyer acquired most of Private Division’s existing and future projects, though Take-Two will still support its recent release, “No Rest for the Wicked,” which came out in April. Zelnick also expressed gratitude for Private Division’s work and confidence in their continued success.

There was no new information on the release date for “Grand Theft Auto 6,” but Zelnick confirmed that it won’t overlap with “Borderlands 4,” scheduled to launch between April 2025 and March 2026. He noted that major releases wouldn’t be set to compete with each other.

Take-Two reported earnings of $1.47 billion, surpassing Wall Street’s expectations of $1.43 billion. This earnings update came shortly after Donald Trump’s presidential election win over Kamala Harris. Zelnick mentioned that with the new administration, he anticipates a more balanced approach from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) compared to past regulations under President Biden.
