‘Citadel: Diana,’ the Second Chapter of the Citadel Franchise, is “Made in Italy”
Set to premiere worldwide on October 10 on Prime Video, “Citadel: Diana” brings a thrilling new chapter to the “Citadel” franchise, starring Italian actress Matilda De Angelis (“The Undoing”) as Diana Cavalieri, an undercover agent trapped behind enemy lines.The Italian-language spin-off continues the high-stakes action of the original series, created by Joe and Anthony Russo, and connects with other international versions, such as “Citadel: Honey Bunny” from India.
Set in a near-future Milan of 2030, “Citadel: Diana” follows the gripping story of Diana Cavalieri, a former agent of the Citadel spy organization that was dismantled eight years earlier by a powerful rival syndicate, Manticore. Now, Diana finds herself alone, operating as a mole within Manticore, with her only chance of escape resting on an unexpected ally — Edo Zani, the son of Manticore Italy’s leader, Ettore Zani, who is himself entangled in a power struggle for control of the syndicate.
The trailer showcases intense car chases, gunfights, and daring zip-line escapes across various European locations, drawing comparisons to high-octane films like “John Wick.” Beyond the action, the series delves into Diana’s personal vendetta against those who murdered her family and her quest to dismantle a global network of arms dealers.
Directed by Arnaldo Catinari and developed by Alessandro Fabbri, who also serves as head writer, the six-episode series is Prime Video’s most ambitious Italian original to date. Produced by Rome-based Cattleya in collaboration with ITV Studios and Amazon MGM Studios, “Citadel: Diana” is executive produced by the Russo Brothers’ AGBO, with Gina Gardini as the showrunner. The cast includes Lorenzo Cervasio as Edo Zani, Maurizio Lombardi as Ettore Zani, alongside Thekla Reuten, Julia Piaton, Filippo Nigro, and Bernhard Schütz, bringing a dynamic ensemble to this gripping spy thriller that is set to captivate global audiences.
Matilda De Angelis underwent intense preparation for the role, training with EAStunt, an Italian stunt agency founded in 2007 but with roots dating back to 1958, when Mario Novelli began his career as a stunt performer. EAStunt is renowned for its expertise in creating and executing complex stunt sequences for international productions, and its headquarters near the historic Cinecittà Studios in Rome allows it to provide top-notch services to filmmakers worldwide. The actress made her American market debut in the series “The Undoing” alongside Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman and, in 2023, starred in Netflix’s “The Law According to Lidia Poët,” which ranked in the global top 20 for Non-English TV shows.
