Nielsen Taps Tech Veteran Jared Grusd to Lead Gracenote

Monday, July 8 was the first day of school for Jared Grusd. As a veteran media and tech executive, he has taken the helm as CEO of Gracenote, the content-solutions division of Nielsen, a global leader in audience measurement and consumer behavior tracking. Grusd reports directly to Nielsen CEO Karthik Rao. Meanwhile, Sujit Das Munshi, who has led Gracenote as general manager since November 2022, will transition to the role of chief operating officer.

Gracenote is known for selling entertainment metadata and connected ID solutions, which facilitate content navigation and applications. Nielsen acquired Gracenote from Tribune Media Co. in 2017, further enhancing its capabilities in content data. Grusd brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has a strong background in both media and technology, coupled with his leadership experience. He co-founded Ethiqly AI, an educational technology company that leverages AI to enhance human expression and empowerment. Prior to that, he was the chief strategy officer at Chime, a banking app, and at Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, where he also held positions as head of content and head of international market development. His previous roles include Ceo of HuffPost during its ownership by Verizon, and chief legal officer at Spotify. Earlier in his career, Grusd served as AOL’s chief strategy and business development officer and held senior executive positions at Google. He holds a law degree from the University of Chicago and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

“I’m honored to join Nielsen and build on the tremendous innovation and growth that Gracenote has achieved under Sujit’s strong vision and strategy,” Grusd said in a statement. “This is an exciting time as our industry embraces advanced technologies and we look for new ways of working with clients and increasing the value we bring to market. I’m excited to help define the next chapter of Gracenote.” Nielsen’s CEO, Karthik Rao, also commented on Grusd’s appointment: “Gracenote is a critical part of Nielsen and our strategy as we look to grow in streaming and lead the advancement of Convergent TV in the media measurement industry. Jared’s background and passion for transforming businesses to improve society align with our future goals. I’m grateful for his partnership as we transform our industry together.”
