ITALIAN SCREENS Los Angeles – Showcasing New Italian Cinema Globally

ITALIAN SCREENS, an initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), Cinecittà for the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture (DGCA-MiC), and the Academy of Italian Cinema – David di Donatello Awards.

ITALIAN SCREENS
aims to elevate the profile of Italian cinema on the international stage. The initiative celebrates Italy’s Film Distribution Fund, development and production incentives, generous tax credits, and exquisite filming locations.

A selection of Italian titles, recognized in various categories of the David di Donatello Awards, will be showcased at the Laemmle Theatre in Santa Monica and at the USC-University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts in the Ray Stark Family Theatre and Norris Cinema Theatre of the Frank Sinatra Hall.

Roberto Stabile, the creator and head of the project, conveys: “ITALIAN SCREENS is part of a more structured promotion strategy for the Italian film industry abroad, combining cultural and commercial aspects, with the aim of gaining new market shares in countries where Italian cinema has a solid presence and exploring and establishing positions in emerging markets. With this initiative, in addition to presenting our most recent production, we are illustrating to foreign industry professionals all the benefits that our country offers them for co-producing, filming here, or distributing our cinema in foreign theaters.”

The screenings in Los Angeles are organized by IbiscusMedia, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles and under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy.

The Movies:

La Siccita’

Awarded for Visual Effects (VFX) and starring Emanuela Fanelli, recipient of the David di Donatello for Best Supporting Actress.
Showing at Santa Monica Laemmle Theatre
Directed by Paolo Virzì
Screenplay by Paolo Giordano, Paolo Virzì, Francesca Archibugi
Produced by: Lorenzo Gangarossa, Mario Gianani, Lorenzo Mieli
Starring: Silvio Orlando, Valerio Mastandrea, Elena Lietti, Tommaso Ragno, Claudia Pandolfi, Vinicio Marchioni, Monica Bellucci

The film paints a vivid picture of Rome’s drought-stricken plight – not a single raindrop had fallen on the city for three years, leading to significant problems. The entire city is suffering from thirst, and the administration enforces a set of restrictions that further exacerbate life, especially for the less fortunate. In this scenario, a chorus of characters, young and old, marginalized and successful, victims, and opportunists, navigates their lives. Their existences are intertwined in a common design as they each seek their own redemption.

November 30th at 7 pm; doors open at 6:30 P.M.

The fatal passion brings the clans back into war in an ancient land, not so different from the Far West, where only blood can wash out blood, following the ruthless codes of the local mafia. But Marilena, now cast out by the Camporeale and prisoner of the Malatesta, contended and reviled, with the strength only a wounded mother can have, will oppose a destiny that seems already written.

While at the height of his artistic growth, at the same time, Pirandello is immersed in introspection about the theatrical world.
