Ads Are Coming to TikTok

Users will see sponsored posts using TikTok’s search feature.

After Instagram, TikTok is entering the ad world. The social network recently announced the launch of a new advertising feature that will display sponsored video content in the app’s search results. According to the company’s business website, the Search Ads Toggle allows advertisers to serve ads directly alongside the organic search results that come up based on users’ queries. “We’re excited to announce the launch of the Search Ads Toggle, a new feature on TikTok Ads Manager that allows brands to serve ads in TikTok search results,” – writes the company on its business page. The sponsored video ads will be marked and appear next to non-paid content. TikTok already includes sponsored video ads in users’ main feeds, also with a “sponsored” label.

Earlier this year, Instagram made the same move, placing sponsored content related to a user’s search.

Ads taking over TikTok’s search pages could suggest that it’s a valuable placement for advertisers. Young people increasingly use TikTok as a Google replacement to look for product recommendations, restaurants, or shows to watch.
