YouTube Is Testing A Tool To Dub Content Using AI

The platform teamed up with Google’s AI-powered dubbing service Aloud.

YouTube will soon introduce a new tool to help creators automatically dub their videos into other languages using Artificial Intelligence. The platform is testing the system by teaming up with AI-powered dubbing service Aloud, which is part of Google’s in-house incubator Area 120.

Google first introduced Aloud in 2022. The AI-powered dubbing product transcribes a video for the creator, then translates and produces a dubbed version. Creators can review and edit the transcription before Aloud generates the dub. It is currently available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. However, there will be more languages offered in the future. YouTube is testing the tool with hundreds of creators “but soon the company will open the tool to all”, YouTube’s VP of Creator Products, Amjad Hanif, told at VidCon, the video-content conference held in Anaheim, in June. “YouTube is working to make translated audio tracks sound like the creator’s voice, with more expression and lip sync,” said Added Hanif.

Earlier in the year, YouTube introduced multi-language audio tracks support, enabling creators to add dubbing to their new and existing videos. This helps them reach a wider international audience. As of June 2023, the company shared that creators have dubbed over 10,000 videos in more than 70 languages.
