Musk To Change Twitter’s Name
It will become X, the little blue bird will disappear.
“Soon, we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” tweeted Elon Musk last Saturday. Before long, the tweeting matter will be once again assigned to the animal kingdom. The Tesla entrepreneur, who bought Twitter last October, will change the social media’s name and logo. Twitter will be renamed X, and the little blue bird will be gone.
He also said the platform’s website would be run off the x.com domain name. He even posted a poll asking whether it should “Change default platform color to black.” About 75% voted yes. Later he wrote: “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make [it] go live worldwide tomorrow,” an hour later, he tweeted an X logo.
In April 2023, the company disclosed that Musk had changed its name from Twitter Inc. to X Corp., incorporated in Nevada with its central place of business in San Francisco.
The domain X.com is not new to Musk: it was first an online bank co-founded by Musk which then merged with Confinity Inc. to create PayPal.
Twitter, founded in 2006, has been sporting a bird as its mascot since 2008. In 2012, they launched the current Twitter Bird logo.
Musk is the most-followed user on Twitter, boasting a whopping 149 million followers on the platform. Barack Obama comes in second, with an impressive 132 million.
