Can a doll and a physicist save cinema? The answer is yes. What was called the “Barbenheimer” weekend was a huge success, earning a combined total of $235.5 million at the U.S. box office.
Barbie, portrayed by Margot Robbie, stole the show with an impressive $155 million ticket sales. Oppenheimer, the film about the renowned physicist behind the development of the atomic bomb, also fared well, bringing in $80.5 million. The movie features an incredible cast, including Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, and Emily Blunt. This is Christopher Nolan’s longest film and stands out for its lengthy 3 hour runtime, but that didn’t scare away the audience.
Feminist, intelligent, and very pink Barbie is directed by Greta Gerwig and stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa, and other actors and actresses who play different versions of Mattel’s Barbie and Ken dolls.
No “Barbenheimer” phenomenon in Italy. Oppenheimer will be in movie theaters only on August 23rd. Barbie’s Italian box office made 7,7 million euros during the weekend.
