Former NBCUniversal Ad Chief Linda Yaccarino Named CEO of Twitter

Elon Musk tweeted that Yaccarino “will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology.”

“I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!” Elon Musk announced the new CEO of the social media with a tweet, hours after NBCUniversal announced Linda Yaccarino was leaving her post of head of ad sales.

Musk plans to remain with the company as its chief technology officer. “She will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology,” he said. The company is far smaller now than when Musk took over in October, having laid off thousands of employees. It has reportedly struggled to retain advertisers since then, a situation Linda Yaccarino, one of the most recognizable people in the advertising industry, will have to address soon.

Yaccarino, 60, joined NBCUniversal in 2011 and oversaw one of the largest advertising portfolios in U.S. media, including cable and broadcast television, multiple news outlets, and, more recently, the company’s digital platforms, including Peacock. Her relationships in the ad world could be vital in getting advertisers to return to Twitter.
