Industry Panel “Women in Entertainment” (Los Angeles, March 1st 2023)
The panel was moderated by Tiziana Rocca, General Director of Filming Italy Los Angeles. Alessandra Rainaldi, the Italian Trade Commissioner opened the event, underlining the importance of the role of women in this industry at every level.
The speakers: Sandra Stern (Vice Chairman Lionsgate Television Group), Chiara Tilesi (We do it together) and Italian actresses Matilda De Angelis (The Undoing, Leonardo, Across the river and into the trees) and Greta Scarano (The perfect dinner, Suburra) brought on stage their experiences from different background and capacity and share their insights on why this topic is so relevant. Infact, despite women representing 50% of the population, they have generally been treated as a minority in movies and audiovisual content. And despite some improvements, there are also step backs, women directors in movies went back to 9% (in 2020 they were 12%, 2021 10%)*.
We are moving forward, but the journey is still very long. Changing the narratives requires efforts from both women and men. The panelists concluded that accountability is a relevant aspect (or engine) of this movement towards equality and diversity.
