Golden Globes Secured 2024 Date, But No Broadcast Partner Yet
The 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards will be held Sunday, January 7, 2024.
The next Hollywood Foreign Press’ Golden Globes ceremony has a date but still needs a TV broadcast partner to be aired.
Organizers confirmed that the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards will be held Sunday, January 7, 2024. “The awards show, produced by Dick Clark Productions, does not have a broadcast partner beyond this year’s event, which aired on the Globes’ long-time network, NBC. Discussions are reportedly underway with outlets, including NBC,” writes Nellie Andreeva on Deadline. “The 2023 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which marked the awards show’s return to TV following a non-televised 2022 show, amid controversy surrounding the lack of diversity among Hollywood Foreign Press Association membership, drew 6.3M viewers, an all-time low.”
The award show came under fire in February 2021, when a Los Angeles Times exposé reported there were no Black members within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the voting organization behind the awards.
In September 2022, after some changes and the inclusion of a number of Black voting members, the HFPA, Dick Clark Productions, and NBC announced that the 2023 Golden Globes would air live on NBC and Peacock. The deal was part of a one-year agreement with NBC. What will happen in 2024 is not yet decided.
