An Interview with Andrea Scrosati

The COO of Fremantle explains his unique business model.

In an exclusive interview with Variety Italian correspondent Nick Vivarelli, Andrea Scrosati – group COO and continental Europe CEO of
Fremantle – explains the fast growth of his company “from 8 to 32 delivered movies in two years,” Scrosati says. “We acquire or invest in independent labels. Our job is to make them stronger and bigger. I think the variety of companies that we own and have invested in, in terms of geography and in terms of cultural focus, is pretty unique. And there are times when all of this comes together in an interesting way. Venice is one of these”.

In 2021 Freemantle was at the Venice Film Festival with two movies. In 2022 they were six. Among them: “Bones and All” by the Italian director Luca Guadagnino who got the Silver Lion for best directing, while the young actor Taylor Russell got the “Marcello Mastroianni Award” for the best-emerging performance; L’immensità by the Italian director Emanuele Crialese, in Italian, starring Penelope Cruz; and “The Eternal Daughter” in which Tilda Swinton plays two roles. “Then you have Paolo Virzì’s “Siccità,” – says Scrosati – a global story, but also a very Italian movie. Furthermore, “Amanda” and “Notte Fantasma,” which are in partnership with another producer, show the approach we have in investing in new talent and also supporting new producers.”
